“And now, Father glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” John 17:5
When Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was raised on the third day, he completed the work that the Father had given him to do here on this earth. On the cross, Jesus was glorified and He gave glory to the Father. While the cross was an awful event from a human perspective, it was a part of God’s plan for the redemption of humanity. When Jesus ascended back into heaven, he entered as the “lamb who was slain (Revelation 5:12)” and will eternally receive the glory that is due Him. At this moment, Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father which shows the power and authority that He has. He is our Lord who deserves all glory and praise, especially from us. We shouldn’t wait until we get to heaven to give glory to Christ. We should live for the Glory of God now. When I glorify the Father, I glorify the Son and when I glorify the Son, I glorify the Father.
I am afraid that we are such busy people, with so many different desires and dreams that we don’t adequately live for the glory of God. Do I consider that every thought, word, and action are opportunities to glorify God? To glorify God means that we magnify His name and let the world know of His greatness. My words should point people to Jesus. My actions should show that I know He is Holy and desires me to live a holy life. My thoughts should glorify God because he knows the things about me that no one else knows. My life should be lived in such a way that there is a continual spotlight on Him. That is why were are still here on this earth, to glorify God in all that we do. I don’t want to live my life and realize that I lived for the approval of people, for financial security, for earthly success at the neglect of living for the glory of God. I want to be a husband for the glory of God. A father for the glory of God. A family member for the glory of God. A friend for the glory of God. A neighbor for the glory of God. A pastor for the Glory of God. I want every single part of my life to be lived for His Glory. Do you want that, too?
